Cohabitation Can Be A Legally Bound Stranger - 870 Words

Be a committed roommate instead of a legally bound stranger. Cohabitation can be defined as two people living together who are not legally married with the intention to do so or not. According to foryourmarriage.org, about sixty percent of couples cohabitate before marriage. Although many do not agree with this arrangement for many reasons, there are multiple people, including oneself, that believe this to be a positive idea. Cohabitation can provide financial stability and strengthen the bond of a couple by providing insight on their habits and personal rituals before taking the step to get married. Cohabitating before marriage can financially benefit a couple. Paying rent or two separate mortgages at separate homes when they could share a space and only have one set of bills instead of two is just one example of how this could be beneficial. With the cost of food rising on a regular basis it doesn’t make sense to constantly eat out or buy groceries for separate homes when th ey could cut the cost living under one residence. By living together before marriage, they could also cut their fuel expenses that are spent from travelling back and forth to one another’s homes to visit with each other. â€Å"In a recession, it just doesn’t make any sense for two people who say they love each other to pay separate rents† (Alexia, Para 2). â€Å"Cohabitation and marriage could be more successful when they are built from sound understanding and financial foundation† (Living Together, Para 9).Show MoreRelatedEssay on LAW4198 Australian Commercial Law27758 Words   |  112 Pagesis no real consensus; ie. the parties are not ad idem (of one mind)); 3. Bleak House by Charles Dickens free essay sample

An analysis of the literary work Bleak House by Charles Dickens, with the purpose of discerning and discussing the prevailing genres that have been employed. This paper evaluates the thematic, stylistic and political content of Charles Dickens more mature work, Bleak House. This paper discusses the modes of genre in which this novel could be categorized. The later works of most creative genii have been construed as practically spiritual manifestations as it is in this period that the definitive masterpieces are known to emerge, such as Shakespeares late romance play, The Tempest, or Mozarts Magic Flute. Shakespeares genres grew less palpable, and the music of Beethoven became more unearthly than ever before. In the same manner, a more mature work in Dickens career, Bleak House, proved to be more obscure in the rendering of genre, and instead, bears its weight equally with the tone of a popular melodrama, a realist novel, moral fairytale, political satire and a hard-boiled detective story, encapsulating the richest elements from his previous works. We will write a custom essay sample on Bleak House by Charles Dickens or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Dickens unrelenting concern for harmonious social order, justice, and universal comfort became the major motifs throughout his writing, in which he produced a cross-section of characters from his society, and duly criticized or embraced their behavior in relation to their context. In the Victorian period for which Dickens wrote, London society was notoriously bleak, dank, and disorderly. In Bleak House, Dickens succeeds in revealing the corrupted behavior of the court and the idleness of the general public. Social mayhem marks the predominant hue for his canvas, and the city of London is painted with heavy grey strokes. It could well be that Bleak House represents the highest point of his intellectual maturity.

Professional Development Plan

Introduction Leadership is an important process in team management. It is always important to understand the characteristic of self and that of team members in order to offer effective leadership. By understanding the personal characteristics and of the other team members, a leader will be able to understand the strengths and weaknesses in order to find a way of achieving success in addressing the specific duties.Advertising We will write a custom coursework sample on Professional Development Plan specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In this learning group, there are four members; they include Elizabeth, Jason, Rachel, and I. Each one of us has unique characteristics which make us diversified in our capabilities. Where one of us has weaknesses, the others may have strengths, and this makes it possible to address various challenges as a team. As a leader, I need to analyze these characteristics in order to determine how we can address different tasks, and how we can help one another overcome some of the personal challenges that may affect our career (Rughani, Franklin Dixon, 2003). In this assignment, I seek to develop a plan that will address the characteristics of the group and me as the leader of the learning team. Combined DISC Chart of the Learning Team Members The group members have taken their time to generate their DISC profile based on the specific questions that were set for them. The following is a combined DISC chart of my Learning Team members. Figure 1: Combined DISC Chart The characteristics of the team The chart above shows the characteristics of the team. It is clear that the four team members have different traits that make each one unique. When describing the characteristics of the team, it would be important to look at the composition of the personality and behavior of the different members. The chart shows that this team has the right composition that it needs in order to succeed.Advertisin g Looking for coursework on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Each of the four members do not share the personality trait as given by DISC assessment. In each of the four personality traits described in the DISC, there is only one person. This makes the group an all-rounded team with all the four different personalities. This may be advantageous because of the diversity of opinions that may exist in the group. This means that each of the ideas proposed by the team members will be analyzed from different perspectives, and the final decisions will be based on a clearly informed knowledge that is convincing to the four people with different traits. However, this may also have its own challenges. The difference in personality means that each of the team members has a different reasoning approach. This may not only delay the process of coming up with a decision, but also may lead to a complete breakdown in commun ication and decision making processes. What one of the team members finds to be very important may mean very little to another member. What one member may consider a best course of action may be the complete opposite of the thought of another team member. This means that it would take compromise and support in order to make any progress in some cases. Development Plan on Characteristics of my Team Members As a leader of this group, it is important at this stage to create a development plan to address specific characteristics of the team members both individually and as a group (Beers, 2007). This will clearly demonstrate my ability to lead them under various circumstances. Group professional development plan This group has four members with varying characteristics. The report we obtained from the personality self-assessment reveals that we are very unique in this group. As a leader, I consider this as the main strength. It is evident that where one of us has a weakness, we find stre ngth in the other person. This makes it easy to develop as a learning team. The results reveal that each one of us needs some development in specific areas in order to develop into a better person. In this team, we will work together and identify these weaknesses, and find a solution that will help all the team members overcome them in order to advance our careers (Peine Peine, 2008).Advertising We will write a custom coursework sample on Professional Development Plan specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Individual professional development plan It is vital to start by creating an individual professional development plan based on the results obtained from the DISC assessment of the four members. The four members included Elizabeth, Jason, Rachel, and I. Elizabeth The results reveal that Elizabeth is predominantly an interactive style who is sometimes referred to as an enthusiast. It means that she is more direct and less open. The ma in goal that that drives her is to influence people around her to act in a given pattern. Some of the key characteristics of Elizabeth include seeking status symbol, slow in pace, dislike of routines, comfortable to delegate duties, an enthusiast, persuasive and inspirational, and very trusting. Sometimes she may be evasive when under pressure. In her growth opportunities, she focuses more on the big picture and very impulsive. Her personal empowerment pointers show that she needs to improve her ability to deal with substance of the tasks, state her positive views, and learn from the Steadiness. Her main weakness is that she is sometimes careless and disorganized. Jason Jason comes out as predominantly a Dominance Style- sometimes referred to as the Producer- based on the results that were obtained from the DISC assessment. Generally, he is less direct in his speech and actions. His primary goal is to accomplish better goals within his organization or group. He dislikes people who h e considers to be obstacles to his achievement of the set goals, and prefer working as a team. Her ability to produce makes him valuable to this learning team because he is always dependable and very efficient. He rarely delegates his duties, strict on working as per the schedule, and can manage pressure. He is always focused and very confident when working with people. However, his weakness is that he dislikes being instructed and is always reluctant to change. Rachel Rachel comes out predominantly as a person with Steadiness style traits. She is a go-getter whose main drive in life is the desire for a steady flow of greater achievements in all the tasks that she does. She is a good short-term planner and self-reliant person. I am a thorough and dependable person who prefers methodological approach when handling tasks. I am always keen to embrace change when it is confirmed that it is attainable. Major Events That Led to the American Revolution

Major Events That Led to the American Revolution The American Revolution was a war between the 13 British Colonies in North America and Great Britain. It lasted from  April 19, 1775, to  Sept. 3, 1783, a little over 8 years, and resulted in independence for the colonies.   Timeline of the War The following timeline discusses the events that led to the American Revolution,  beginning with the end of the French and Indian War in 1763. It follows the thread of increasingly unpopular British policies against the American colonies until the colonists objections and actions led to open hostility. The war itself would last from 1775 with the Battles of Lexington and Concord until the official end of hostilities in February 1783. The Treaty of Paris was later signed in September of the same year. 1763 February 10 - The Treaty of Paris ends the French and Indian War. After the war, the British continue to fight a number of Indian rebellions including one led by Chief Pontiac of the Ottawa Indians. The financially draining war combined with the increased military presence for protection will be the impetus for many future taxes and actions of the British government against the colonies.October 7 - The Proclamation of 1763 is signed forbidding settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains. This area is to be set aside and governed as Indian territory. 1764 April 5 - Grenville Acts pass parliament. It increased duties on items ranging from sugar to coffee to textiles.April 19 - The Currency Act passes Parliament, prohibiting the colonies from issuing legal tender paper money.May 24 - Boston town meeting protesting the Grenville measures. This later spreads to other colonies. 1765 March 22 - The Stamp Act passes parliament. It is the first direct tax on the colonies. The purpose of the tax is to help pay for the British military stationed in America. This act is met with greater resistance and the cry against taxation without representation increases.March 24 - The Quartering Act goes into effect in the colonies requiring residents to provide housing for British troops stationed in America.May 29 - Patrick Henry begins the discussion of the Virginia Resolutions asserting the right that only Virginia has the right to tax itself. The House of Burgesses adopts some of his less radical statements including the right to self-government.July - Sons of Liberty organizations are founded in towns across the colonies in order to fight against the stamp agents, often with outright violence.October 7-25 - Stamp Act Congress occurs in New York City. It includes representatives from Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Is land, and South Carolina. Petition against the Stamp Act is created to be delivered to King George III. November 1 - The Stamp Act goes into effect and all business is basically stopped as colonists refuse to use the stamps. 1766 February 13 - Benjamin Franklin testifies before Parliament about the Stamp Act and warns that if the military is used to enforce it, this could lead to open rebellion.March 18 - The Stamp Act is repealed. However, the Declaratory Act is passed which gives the British government the power to legislate any laws of the colonies without restriction.December 15 - The New York Assembly continues to fight against the Quartering Act, refusing to allocate any funds for housing the soldiers. The crown suspends the legislature on December 19th. 1767 June 29 - Townshend Acts pass parliament introducing a number of external taxes including duties on items like paper, glass, and tea. Additional infrastructure is set up to ensure enforcement in America.October 28 - Boston decides to reinstate nonimportation of British goods in response to the Townshend Acts.December 2 - John Dickinson publishes Letters From a Farmer in Pennsylvania to the Inhabitants of the British Colonies explaining the issues with British actions to tax the colonies. It is highly influential. 1768 February 11 - Samuel Adams sends a letter with the approval of the Massachusetts Assembly arguing against the Townshend Acts. It is later protested by the British government.April - An increasing number of legislative assemblies support Samuel Adams letter.June - After a confrontation over Customs violations, John Hancocks ship Liberty is seized in Boston. The men are set ashore and the boat is burned.September 2 - The English crown offers a reward for the capture of those who burnt the Gaspee. The offenders are to be sent to England for trial which upsets many colonists as it violates self-rule.November 2 - A Boston town meeting led by Samuel Adams results in a 21-member committee of correspondence to coordinate with other Massachusetts towns against the threat to self-rule. 1773 May 10 - The Tea Act goes into effect, retaining the import tax on tea and giving the East India Company the ability to undersell colonial merchants.December 16 - The Boston Tea Party occurs. Costing Principles Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Costing Principles - Essay Example A cost purpose is an action or product for that the total or unit cost is to be computed. A cost objective may be the product manufactured or the service delivered, or it may be a department, a course, or a function, all of that are referred to as cost centers. The cost axis is the least unit for that costs are mounted up for reporting and analytical functions. Organisations whose products or batches of products are treated as individual jobs use job-order costing systems. Airplane producers and parts suppliers for large manufacturing Organisations, such as tool and die shops, are examples of the users of this system. Organisations use process-costing systems with homogeneous products such as crude oil, chemicals, and grains. Both job-order and process costing systems function to build up unit costs of production, but since of the inherent disparities in the physical characteristics of the products the two methods vary. Standard costing systems absorb standard direct materials, standard direct labor and standard company overhead into production costs. Standard costs are estimated costs that may have a close relationship with budgeted costs. Standard costing systems are widely used by manufacturing organisations. (Shank, 1993, 32-33) The official statement of generally accepted accounting principles, demands that the assessment of inventories by manufacturing firms for external reporting include the full cost, that is, direct materials, direct labor and total company overhead. This system of product costing is called absorption costing or full-absorption costing. (Antos, 1998, 13-14) GAAP also requires that for external reporting actual costs should be used except where the estimated costs are not materially different from actual costs. Direct Costing Direct costing differs from full-absorption costing only in regard to one category of costs, fixed company overhead. Direct costing includes direct materials, direct labor, and variable overhead in the product costs. Fixed company overhead is charged directly to the accounting period. Ending inventory, therefore, never includes any fixed overhead. This system of costing has not been approved for external reporting purposes by GAAP, but may be used for internal purposes. Activity-Based Costing A management tool named activity - based costing (ABC) has turn out to be one of the more extensively clinch of new management styles over the period of the last ten years. Though its nucleus lies in cost accounting, ABC has engrossed the consideration of business managers in general, and has been the focus of researches in the Harvard Business Review and Fortune. Not simply is it a foremost subject matter in business, it has been accepted in parts of government like USA, such as the Department of Defense and the IRS. What commenced as effectively an

Women like Chanel Bags Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1

Women like Chanel Bags - Essay Example In a period when luxury products have been the subject of intensive discussion and debate, current consumers are willing to offer considerably higher amounts of money for luxury products as a display of a particular product brings prestige to the owner apart from the functional utility. Luxury items are becoming a necessity as more than 51 percent women in Tokyo purchase Chanel bags. It is further important to mention that luxury consumption is influenced by factors such as brand image, quality, fashion, store atmosphere and patron status. There are contrasting views from Vigneron and Johnson who believe that categorization of luxury products, hedonist and perfectionists are more interested in pleasure derived from the use of luxury products and less interested in price rather than the quality of product, and its performance which leaves the debate open for discussion whether luxury products are bought for quality or just for the sake of prestige. The market for a luxury product is increasing with increasing income among the middle and high society which forces the manufacturers to provide fashionable items to its consumers which are durable and utilized optimally. Schroeder (1291) mentioned that typical turns in an art, artists, and aesthetics in management and marketing often involve ill-defined groping for innovation, creativity or play. The viability of a fashion brand is dependent upon the efficacy and appropriateness of the decisions of those responsible for its management.

Climate change Essay Example for Free

Climate change Essay There is nothing that we as individuals can do to prevent climate change Nowadays climate change is a growing threat not only to some countries but to the whole world environment. We have to become aware of this issue and do something to avoid it from getting worse. Personally I disagree with this title because I think that in fact there are a lot of things that we as individuals can do to prevent climate change. Firstly, everything we do in our routine lives emits carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. That means that even making small changes in what we do, can have a positive impact in the prevention of climate change. So, as a first step, we should replace the use of cars by public transport which is much less polluting. Secondly, we should turn off appliances, machines and lights off when weve finished using them, it is very helpful to save energy and it costs nothing. In addition, another simple way to save energy and water is to take shorter showers. So, as you will use less hot water, the water heater will save a big amount of energy. Finally, in my opinion, we need to work together as a community to achieve success; otherwise the effort that some people could make would be ruined by the ones who keep polluting the atmosphere. So, it is important to run campaigns to make everyone know how we are endangering our planet and that there are many really simple things that we can do to protect it. In conclusion, I believe that there is a lot that we as individuals can do to prevent climate change, now we have to put it in practice.

The Definition of Power :: Definition Essays Power Authority

The Definition of Power   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Power is many things. It is the ability to control people in their sayings and/or actions. It is the ability to get whatever you want. Power is a necessary component in any society, otherwise all pandemonium would break loose; leaders must be established. But, when taken to an extreme, power is not good, and pandemonium will break loose.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  As Lord Acton said, "Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely." A good example of this is Adolph Hitler in Nazi Germany. He believed he could not be stopped and that rules did not apply to him. By being given absolute power, he corrupted the government. No attempt was made to stop this by the Germans, because of the control he had. People were either scared to stop this, or were brainwashed into believing it. Finally the U.S. had to step in and try to stop Hitler, and World War II broke out.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  But power is not all bad though. As was stated earlier, it is necessary in any group of people, and there will be struggle to achieve it--be it a country, a business, or a sports team. Athletics is a good example of where there is a constant power struggle. In every league, every player wants control. They want what they think should happen (during games), to happen. Recently, in the NBA, Dennis Rodman took this struggle to an extreme. In disagreement with an official's call, Rodman head-butted the official, and through a temper- tantrum on his way off the court. Quite obviously, this is bad. Every player in the league agrees to the rules set by the NBA from the beginning. The rules are made to keep control, and the officials have power to enforce these rules. If there were no regulations, players would be doing whatever they wanted whenever they wanted. If Rodman's antics would have taken place somewhere other than a basketball court he probably would be in trouble with the law. If he were to argue with a police officer, for example, the same way he did with the referee, he probably would be put in jail or at very least heavily fined. Well, the NBA is not going to put anyone in jail for this, but they did fine him and suspend him for a couple of games. Basically Rodman is as bad as any street bully who picks on or beats up little kids. Only he does it on a basketball court, so generally it is considered "part of the game." In nine out of ten cases, a fine is levied, and all is forgotten.

Going to war with Mexico was Justified Essay

Can’t decide if the United States going to war with Mexico was justified or not justified? It can be a struggle to decide. Mexico won its independence from Spain in the nineteenth century. Spain controlled most of Central America. Due to the extremely low population for such territorial extension, Mexico relaxed its immigration policies, as a result, allowing American settlers to help populate the northern territories. Their conditions to settle were self-explanatory. Now what do think? The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico. The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because, of the Manifest Destiny, Mexico robbed the United States citizens, and the U.S. wanted to extend slavery and land. One reason the Mexican war was justified was because of the Manifest Destiny. (Doc A) When we’re welcoming Mexicans into the Texas territory, they’re keeping the U.S. from expanding. America needs land because of our massive population. Mex ico’s government is so deprived that they can’t keep California. If Mexico can’t afford California, how will they even afford Texas? America will eventually have California, but that’s not enough for our evolution population. This evidence shows the U.S. was justified in going to war because Mexico can’t control the land they already have; America has more population than Mexico, the U.S. should have more land. A second reason the Mexican War was justified was an invasion that Mexico has passed the boundary of the U.S. (Doc B) James Polk, an American Political wrote to the Senate and House of Representatives that was a war message from the President. James informed the Senate & House of Representatives to order an efficient military to take position on the Rio Grande to meet a threatened invasion of Texas by the Mexican forces. Mexican troops were preparing to cross the river. This evidence shows the U.S. was justified in going to war with Mexico because Mexico had killed and injured sixteen Americans, also, Mexico had passed the boundary of the United States , invaded our their territory, and shed American blood upon the American soil. A third reason the Mexican War was justified was an invasion robbery. (Doc D) Charles Sumner, an American political and young state legislator from Massachusetts who later served twenty-four years in the U.S. While citizens from the U.S. moved into Texas to prove that it needs to be a part of the U.S., Mexico robbed them. Mexico and the U.S. both wanted Texas, but instead, the U.S. moved without letting Mexico know; therefore they robbed  the citizens of the United States. This evidence shows the U.S. was justified in going to war with Mexico because they did something so immature, only the Mexicans would do it. The United States in going to war with Mexico was justified. Many of those have died trying to receive the land of Texas. (Doc A) America should have more land because of our growing population, meanwhile, Mexico doesn’t even half nearly as the occupants that the U.S. has. It’s significant that the U.S. was justified or not in going to war with Mexico because one of them will have Texas. It’s important today because Texas enlarged one-third of the United States nation. Plus, if Mexican had won â€Å"The Mexican War†, the United States would’ve been less powerful than it is today. {http://voices.yahoo.com/the-significance-mexican-american-war-285493.html}

Making Effective Workplace Decisions Essay

,.,decision making – nerovivo Steps outlined in this article will help you to determine if you’re making, or that you have made, the right decision about a pending issue. Do you ever wonder how to know that you’re making, or that you have made, the right decision? Decisions are an important of lives. Every day, we make decisions in our home life and work life that will impact our future. That is why having the skills to make good, solid decisions is important. This article outlines a 6 Step Process that will help you to make wise and confident decisions. The objective of making a decision is to choose your best alternative – based on the facts provided – that will lead to a productive end result. These steps will help anyone (at home, school or in business) that has to make decisions. They can be applied when making any decision at any time, from the start of the problem-solving process to the finishing stages of implementing the course of action. Step 1: Identify the problem Read This Next * Workplace Stress and the Decision Making Process * Website Design Trends * Five Steps for Effective Problem Solving in the Workplace A problem can be identified as a difficult issue that needs to be resolved. Quite possibly, failure to resolve the issue could lead to additional, more crucial issues. Most problems in business exist in the form of a statement or a question. For example, a statement problem in might be â€Å"Choose the best vendor to match our product budget.† Likewise, a question problem might be â€Å"What type of product should we develop?† For both types of problems, several sets of conclusions may be derived. Each one making a different impact. When you understand exactly what the problem is, you can use sound judgment to render a decision. Step 2: Determine who should be involved During the first stages of the decision-making process, you should determine who should be involved. This lets you know whether or not the problem would best be solved by forming a team to examine the facts. If so, the team can make recommendations based on those facts. Decisions in the workplace are commonly done as a team. It can be a powerful way to make efficient and expedient progress. The greatest benefit is the combination of talent and creativity that exists when joining heads. When everyone contributes to effective brainstorming, the ideas are compared and different perspectives are examined. A team is far more likely to discover more creative and innovative solutions than one would individually. Step 3: Evaluate the alternatives When you evaluate the alternatives, consider how the making the decision (or even not making the decision) is going to impact any future objectives. Here’s an example: An employee asks a manager for permission to work from home a few days a week. The manager is pondering impact of this decision on the rest of your staff. Things to consider are whether or not the workload can be done from home, and whether the same permission can be granted to the other employees. Some possible alternatives could be as simple as shortening the workday on Fridays. To do this, the manager could require that the employees, as a team, meet certain stated objectives during the week in order to work fewer hours on Friday. This example shows how a decision that, at first, seems to be related to only one person, is in fact a catalyst for impacting the entire department. Step 4: Examine the pros and cons What are the positive and negative results associated with the decision and the related alternatives. For example: There is a question of whether or not to launch a new product at this time. Doing so could put the company ahead of the competition by at least 6 months. However, there could be a problem with quality if the production is rushed. There hasn’t been enough testing and documentation, so quality assurance is moderate at best. The benefit is that you’re outshining the competition, but the risk is that the company could suffer scrutiny for putting out a faulty, non-tested product. Step 5: Making the final decision A large part of making the final decision will be your ability to address the needs of the organization. There will be short-term needs and long-term needs. What are the expectations of the company administrators? The final decision should be in line with the company goals and objectives. In other words, the final decision has to be supported by a solid purpose. Consider this: You don’t make a decision that will cut production by half, if the original mission (purpose) was to increase sales by 30%. Be sure that your choice is based on more on company vision, rather than personal opinion. Narrow your information down to what is vitally important making the decision. For any decision that you make today, always consider the impact that it will make on future Read more at Suite101: Making Effective Workplace Decisions | Suite101.com http://roslyn-johnson.suite101.com/making-effective-workplace-decisions-a358141#ixzz1nnl02Xob

The eNotes Blog The Futility Closet

The Futility Closet Like any scholar worth her salt, I spend my time in the following manner: 1/3   = Reseach 1/3 = Writing 1/3 = Looking for cat videos (Seriously, click the link.) Somewhere in pursuit of one of these tasks, I stumbled upon this wonderful site:   The Futility Closet. The entire site contains marvelous historical and literary ephemera, plus games that challenge the mind. Here are just a few of the surprising things I learned this week: Dante Gabriel Rossetti revered his wife, and when she died in 1862 he laid his journal in her coffin. Seven years later he decided he needed the poems, so he had her exhumed. En route to a training camp in Quebec during World War I, Canadian army lieutenant Harry Colebourn bought a bear cub for $20 from a hunter in White River, Ontario. He named her Winnipeg, after his hometown, and smuggled her to England, where â€Å"Winnie† became the mascot of his militia regiment. Eventually he donated her to the London Zoo, where she became a great favorite of Christopher Robin Milne, the son of a local playwright. You know the rest. Sylvia Plath committed suicide in Yeats’ house. She had taken a flat at 23 Fitzroy Road in London, where Yeats had lived from 1867 to 1874. She told her mother that she felt Yeats spirit blessing me. Agonizing over how to put down his ailing cat, Alexander Woollcott consulted Dorothy Parker. She said, Try curiosity.

Theories of Film Editing - Montage Mis-en-scene And beyond Essay

Theories of Film Editing - Montage Mis-en-scene And beyond - Essay Example Cinema is an art that developed from man’s incorrigible wish to record the movement and the moving objects because it was the moving and not static objects that interested him. The first film show, the Lumiere Show was just a shot of a train coming into the railway platform. Thus in the beginning Cinema was just only a recording medium and the movie camera only a recording machine. It functionally started as a medium to record theatre performances. The tragedy of the theatre is that every great performance by any actor goes into thin air just when the curtain is down. There is no record left. Cinema filled up this gap between the performance and the record for the posterity. As a recording machine, the camera stayed static, taking the position of a static audience in the theatre watching a play. Thus the recorded footage demanded no editing as the whole recording process was continuous. PARALLEL MONTAGE: It was the American film makers D .W Griffith, Edwin Porter who made the static camera vibrant. They invented what we call today the â€Å"close up†. A famous close-up shot of Griffith is Mae Marsh’s clasped hands in the trial episode of Intolerance, one of Griffith’s classics. The close up here adds on to the emotional tone of the film’s narrative. According to Siegfried Kracauer â€Å" It almost looks as if her huge hands with convulsively moving fingers were inserted for the sole purpose of illustrating eloquently her anguish at the most crucial moment of the trail.

NO TOPIC JUST DISCUSSION QUESTIONS Dissertation Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

NO TOPIC JUST DISCUSSION QUESTIONS - Dissertation Example It is one’s contention that the change was managed successfully paving the way for various suppliers and customers to take advantage of advanced communication, computer, and mobile services at increasing volume and decreasing costs. Despite the efficiency and success of contemporary organizations in the industry, future challenges come in terms of continued reliability and sustainability of the system as well as controls in costs of both telecommunications equipment and services. Discussion Question 2: The force field analysis is a viable tool to initiate changes at work through the identification and evaluation of both driving forces and forces of resistance. As indicated, through brainstorming, one is made to clearly itemize these forces and determine which force/s have greater intensities that could assist in the accomplishment of identified change goals.

Nutrition and fitness (answer the questions) Essay - 2

Nutrition and fitness (answer the questions) - Essay Example While exercising, muscular endurance is essential because the continual pressure exerted on the muscles makes it possible to carry out heavy tasks without becoming tired. There exists a relationship between muscular strength and muscular endurance because one cannot exist without the other. Muscles occupy forty percent of body mass. The body depends on muscles for movement and because of this mass they are responsible for a portion of the metabolism that takes place inside bodies. Strong, well toned muscles help make work that had seemed difficult become easy to do and complete. To increase muscle endurance, an individual has to have strength in the muscles. This is because if a person has the strength, then building up endurance will happen rather quickly while a person with little or no muscle strength may take longer to increase muscle endurance. The continual exertion of force on the muscle with much heavier loads over a long period causes the muscle to harden and expand thus increasing the endurance level the muscle has to stress. This goes to show that muscle endurance goes together with muscle strength. This means that these two processes depend on each other for optimum results. Training teenagers is usually very difficult since they are impatient. This is usually very difficult since they work on gaining muscle endurance without first putting on muscle strength and want results in the quickest way possible. They use any avenue to get the results they need. This is usually very difficult since they work on gaining muscle endurance without first putting on muscle strength. Such actions lead to catastrophic results and injuries such as strains, sprains, dislocations, fractures and tendonitis. Further disregard may lead to other chronic complications, for example, nerve damage, bone stress injuries, muscle overloads and rotator cuff

Introduction to britich politics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Introduction to britich politics - Essay Example The beginning of conservatism dated back in the Great War in Britain. During this time, powerful debates about the soul and the thoughts of conservatism were widely spread. The participants were mainly the prominent historians who were the great thinkers in the society. The historians had many arguments in common about the nature of the human beings. However, their areas of specialization differed in terms of the interpretation of issues. They were always aligned to particular political classes. The prominent historians often had chances to address huge multitudes that eventually purchased their works thereby promoting their doctrines further. Many people also read their works in print media as well as in television and radio. They were a great inspiration to the people. The conservatism that exists in the current day in Britain can be traced back in the mid 1750s to early 1800. This came as a reaction to the swift changes and a series of prospects that faced the nation as well as other neighboring European nations. During this period, the Torry party was transformed in to the conservative party. This mainly came as a result of the electoral reforms in 1832 that was aimed at educating the conservatives on ways in which they could become productive and self reliant in the society. This came as a result of the common believe that personal initiatives are usually more effective in bringing the desired results than those that are done communally. Conservatism in the Britain is somehow interrelated with that of other Western Nations (Daunton 1995 pp.27-31). However, it is unique in a way that distinguishes it from the others. Conservatism in Britain established in under the patronage of renowned historians. The torry party was the first to establish the original characteristics of conservatism. It was later transformed in to the conservative party. The

Nazis Who Helped Jews Survive

Nazis Who Helped Jews Survive Masquerading As Devils; Nazis Who Helped Jews Survive The Holocaust During WWII. During the holocaust, many people died, due to Machine Guns or due to starvations well as abuse. This is the way individuals disliked by Nazis were treated. The Jews along with other individuals were killed just on the basis that, Hitler and other people due to their faith. This happened to be the first time; such a holocaust happened based on such a reason. Under normal cases, there were holocausts when individuals were fighting for resources like land, or just an attempt of wining war. In this case, many individuals were killed based on the reason that, they believed in different religion. Around eleven million individuals were killed, and among them 6,000,000 of them were Jews and 5,000,000 were not Jews, (Resnick 34). As a result, this research looks at Nazis who helped Jews survive the Holocaust during WWII. AS a matter of fact, many researchers have dealt with reasons that led to World War II, there effects and the survivors. In addition, more has been done concerning the causes of this war, and how it came to an end, however, very little has been done on how the Jews got survival during the war, yet they were the main victims. Study objectives The main objective of this paper is to identify how the Jews survived during this war. In order to reach at this particular objective, I will use the following research questions. I look at who were the victims of Nazis Holocaust? I look at how was life in the concentration camp? I also look at how the survivors made it did and who were the rescuers? I look at why was it that, the Jews were the most target group? I look at the reasons that motivated rescuers? I look at who is Anne Frank and what made her famous? Definition of Terms Holocaust; in this concept, holocaust has been taken to mean, Large scale destruction and killing of millions of Jews and other people by Adolf Hitlers Nazi Germany during World War II (Library.thinkquest.org par 6). Concentration camps; this were the places that most Nazis victims were being killed Rescuers; are those who, at great personal risk, actively helped members of persecuted groups, primarily Jews, during the Holocaust in defiance of Third Reich policy (Rosenberg, par 4). Ghetto; these were tiny areas that were cordoned off by the use of barbed wire. Rationale This study is very important to me as a student as it is a partial fulfillment of my academic requirements as demanded the collage. Getting a better grade in this research will boost my overall academic grade in my cause. Nevertheless, after the completion of this research project, I will be equipped with lots of historical information concerning WWII, its causes, effects, participants as well as the victims. A part from all these, I will be acquainted with some more vocabularies that were used in history during first WWII. To the society this research will help them know that, those individuals who controlled the past will still control the future. In one way or the other, it will shape the way the society view the present, hence dictating the answers they will offer for the existing wars, problems and injustices. To the society in addition, this research paper will enable them to have the ability of looking back at World War II, and reflect on how the current leaders know the kinds of mistakes they ought not to make when dealing with conflicts. Without knowing how the Jews suffered due to their faith, where will the martyrs come from, they should such like a paper to strengthen their faith. Methodology This research paper addresses the question of Nazis Who Helped Jews Survive the Holocaust during WWII. The secondary source of data collection methods will be employed to ensure that the research carried out becomes successful. Materials from the library, internet and related research reports will be read and analyzed to provide the required data and information on the subject. Sampling strategies that will be used will include random sampling and stratified sampling strategies. In dealing with the ethical issues, the paper was approved by Ethical Approval board before data collection. This research anticipates the following limitations; time limitation, financial constrains, and the unreliability of secondary sources of data. Data Analysis At the time the WW1 started by the year 1914, Hitler was very ready to give out his life for the sake of German individuals. By that time, he was in the army for four years working as a messenger, and was fighting at the front line against Britain. At the end of it all, the Germans lost the war to their Allies. This made Hitler to be very angry for very long time after the defeat of German in the year 1919. It was too much unfortunate that, after the First World War, Germany was trying to come out of the effect in a desperate manner. Apart from this, there came Germany Great Depression. This rendered many individuals jobless and starving. In this terrible economic setting, Hitler made his way to power. In these desperate moments, the Germany people just needed any way out. As a result, Hitler ended up giving the German people lots of hope. Amongst his hopes, he ended up blaming partly the Allies who were the Britons, United States of America and France, for the poor condition that German was passing through as per that time. However, those were not the only parties that were blamed, there were others too. In his believe, German was beaten unfairly because the Jews betrayed them, which he described as being the evil partners of the Britons. He thought that, wealthy merchants and international bankers, which were majorly Jews, gave away all German secretes to Germans enemies. Due to this reason, Hitler hated and went a step higher to convince others to continue hating the Jews. In most cases, the victims of Nazis target included Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, Jehovahs Witnesses, Communists, twins, and the disabled (Auschwitz.dk par 8). Amongst the, there were those who wanted to escape and hide from the Nazis, for instance the Ann Frank along with her family. There were those who were successful in escaping, but the majority was not. The victims as shown in appendix photo 1, that were captured were sterilized , underwent forced resettlement, family and friends separation, beaten, starved and or even death. The main victims were the Jews due the fact; they were hated most by Hitler and his Nazis. These Jews were not allowed to enjoy in theaters resorts or even swimming pools. They were given identity cards with which they had to work with them. The individuals were made to wear, the Davids star badge at any place they were going. There was a time further more, when Hitler set on fire the Jewish Synagogues, which were the place that the Jews went to practice their faith. In addition, Jews homes and businesses were all brought down to book. As an effect, there were no Jewish students who were going to schools, as they were stopped. In addition, there were curfews upon which the Jews were supposed to out, on top of these; they were not supposed to come in public places. At long last, some were forced back to there home land. The last resort for Hitler and his Nazis, were to bring sent to concentration camps. The victims were pushed out of their homes; especially the Jews were forcefully moved into smaller, overpopulated quarters in a very tiny section of the city. Such areas were cordoned off by the use of barbed wires, which were given the name Ghettos. In while in such places, every one was just waiting for a call that could be described as being dreaded, for resettlement. On their side, Jehovah Witness in German were also ban to undertake meetings when Nazis came to power, those who never bought the idea, were taken to concentration camps In the concentration camp, the Jews never lived happily waiting for their peaceful deaths. In this concentration camp as indicated in photo 2 in the Appendices, the treatments were too extremely cruel and very harsh. In such camp, they were no one feeling fine, this was based on the fact that, either some one was sick, starving, dying, and even a slavery laborer. Das result, thy ended up dying in many types of ways, for instance, sickness, starvation, being shoot by machinegun, or even overworking their bodies. There were instance where, others were being told to take shower; instead they ended up being killed. There was a time when they were tricked, and they all ended up in a gas chamber, as a result, they all died, but never did Nazis and other Germans did care (Concentration Camp par 20). Though the conditions were too tough to bear, there were those few who managed to survive. Amongst the survivors, sensed danger, or left to their homes forcefully, meaning that, they will never see their friends or families again. In addition, some survived because they were always a head of Nazis, and had lots of good luck. Life from hiding places was always a struggle, as most were just always in terror of being caught, as mostly were being constant found, hence the chances for escaping were too slim. On the other hand, another reason for terror in hiding places was that, the impact of being caught in hiding was just death, nothing else. It will be too bad to end the list of victims without mentioning Anne Frank. This was a girl from Jewish side, who survived till very end of WWII. After her family received a notice notifying them to hide, she ended up getting a diary. When they were in hiding, she went with her diary to the hiding place. Everyday, she kept on writing in it how she felt about the situation, and it felt to being in being in such a position. Just before the war ended, in 1944, Nazi found their hiding places, courtesy of some Germans who also disliked Jews. At the age of 16, in 1945, she died in a concentration camp. Latter, her diary was found, and currently, has become a book of all terrifying conditions that she underwent through. This book is now called The Diary of Anne Frank. There were those who survived due to many different techniques. There these who made it on the prospect of setting their eyes on their families, and they constantly held it in their minds. On the other hand, there were those who made it as a result of getting favors from upper Jews heading prisons such seniors could at least get extra food. Others used the technique of thievery. Such individuals stole food that was lying dead from their beds. Such thievery in a way can be called ethical stealing, which made some senses. If for sure they were going to die, way waste that particular bread. There were those who had their own luck, narrowly did they escaped all perilous barriers, and ended up being rescued by the Allies. The process of rescuing the Jews was undertaken by individuals who took a step ahead to act according to their own conscious and belief systems, while staying in an immoral community. Millions survived such holocaust incidence due to daring of such rescuers. However, their statistical number was too small. Rescuers were peasants and nannies, aristocrats and clergy, bakers and doctors, social workers and storekeepers, school children and police officers, diplomats and grandmothers. They were from many countries-the Netherlands, the Ukraine, Poland, Germany, France, Hungary, Denmark, Italy, Greece, Belgium and other nations (Fcit.usf.edu par 2). Such individuals never looked at Jews a long with other victims as being enemies, but just as other human beings. To be involved in a rescue process, one had to accept the consequential responsibility that might follow. For instance, their houses were even burned down, for instance in figure 3, after being realized that, they were assisting the Jews and other targeted groups. The rescuers had various reasons for doing so, for instance, the sense of morality motivated them, while others had some relation with particular individuals belonging to the targeted groups. There were those whose engine was politics, as they were the third Reich. There were those who were being involved as workers, for instance, nurses, diplomats, social workers among others, and extended their work beyond professional duties. Many children o the other hand followed the footsteps of their parents, hence becoming rescuers. Conclusion The reason as to why Jews were the main victims in the situation is because; it was believed that they betrayed the Germans during the First World War. Most of them were taken to concentration house where life was so miserable to an extent that, no one was left to die in peace, there were lots of troubles. The survivors in the concentration camp had lots of survival techniques; most of them were brave, determined and so cunning. They never cared on what they had to do to survive, as if thy miss out, they will end up losing. On the other hand, there were some victims who survived due to the mercy of rescuers. The rescuers were motivated by the spirit of humanity in the world of immorality. Work Cited Auschwitz.dk. Anne Frank: An Oasis of Innocence. 2002. 28 March 2011. . Concentration Camp. Essay --

Society has taught people that they should be themselves and express their individuality. There are many people out there who think everyone should act and be the same because people get judged if they act or dress differently. Everyone is their own person and no one should have to conform to everyone else in society. The debate over whether or not uniforms should be required has been going on for years. Many schools have decided it is best to have uniforms when, in all honesty, uniforms make no difference in academic success or behavior of students. Just because someone wears a uniform does not make them any smarter of behave in a better manner. School uniforms should not be required, not only because they do not let students express themselves, but also they cost families more money and do not affect what goes on at school. School uniforms charge parents loads of money every year, and there are families out there that are not able to put money towards this. Since school uniforms â€Å"are an unfair additional expense for parents who pay taxes for a free public education,† a great deal...

Cultural Differences between China and the U.S.A. Essay

China and the United States have different cultural backgrounds, different values and national conditions, it determines the Sino-US education idea, education mode and method is put in the difference with bigger. China’s basic education and basic education in the United States were compared, the majority of people believe that education is the foundation of China, the basic education,† learn more understanding and less†; American education is to cultivate innovation ability education, learning more than studying†Ã¢â‚¬ . What is the† science† or† Enlightenment†? In twentieth Century, the famous British mathematician, philosopher, educator Whitehead once said:† education is a complicated problem †¦ †¦ On this issue there is only a little I can be sure, that is not generally applicable and simple way.† Each student in the school ‘s development, it is not only the educational mode, education content, education system and method to decide, because in the growth of the students, society, family, school education and individual four together play. Therefore, we can not only with the part of the students development, to assert that the entire education system rationality, so it is unreasonable. Two the difference of basic education between China and America Basic education between China and America merits, different people hold no point of view. For example, if the comparison is the mathematical curriculum, China ‘s basic education must exceed the United States; but if the comparison of students’ practical ability especially the practice ability and innovation ability, the American basic education is certainly more than chinese. Elementary education between America and why there is this discrepancy? First, the two countries have very different educational tradition, Chinese basic education pay attention to the accumulation of knowledge and indoctrination, pay attention to the cultivation of students’ knowledge of their master, pay attention to the cultivation of students the same thinking. While the United States is to pay attention to the training of students to use the knowledge to solve the actual problem ability, pay attention to the cultivation of the students’ knowledge of development and innovation, pay attention to the cultivation of students’ critical thinking and divergent thinking. We can see, China Education focused on knowledge static acceptance, and the United States of America education focuses on knowledge of the dynamic control; China is a mode of education, while the United States is a kind of elite education. As the Nobel winner professor Chen Ning Yang said, China and the United States educational philosophy is quite different, the United States of America education philosophy on the former 30%-40% student is good, because they do not need to follow the prescribed order of learning, can jump in learning, the students through training can quickly achieve success. While Chinese education philosophy on 30%-40% student is good, because these students follow the prescribed order, has a solid foundation of the process, have become the opportunity. Secondly, different country on the foundation stage of Education Foundation has different understanding. Take mathematics as an example, the educational circles of China have historically considered, the basic concept and the basic operation is the foundation of mathematics in middle school, so we need to remember a lot of formulas and theorems. While the United States that know where to find these theorems and formulas are more important, they think that can be found in these formulas and theorems, there is no need to worry effort to memory, the brain can be saved to think about other things, such as the theorem has applications? If I need to learn? Wait. China’s education is the basis of that, the brain in a computer independent premise, the reserve knowledge as much as possible, as quickly as possible to extract knowledge, so Chinese students of the brain in these two aspects are fully trained ( on the end game wood, 2002). American education is the basis of that, the brain to make full use of the computer under the premise of development, give up those belonging to the computer work area required capacity, only those belonging to the computer cannot work areas required capacity ( on the end game wood, 2002). Therefore, when by virtue of classroom achievement scholarship, American students often than Chinese students, but can make full use of information tools, in specific practice areas, do some research work, Chinese students often than American students. Hence, in the development of brain underlying function, Chinese education better, but in the use of a variety of information tools to solve problems and make innovation, the United States educational advantage is self-evident. Moreover, from the value tropism, the American basic education from the perspective of individualism, individual supreme is the traditional value pursuit, American basic education of cultivating the students’ personality and creativity. Basic education in China is from social interests, collectivism and patriotism values is its tradition of the pursuit of value, which determines that China’s basic education carried by the individual ability and the training of creative ability are also and values related to. This and the American individualism education a fundamental distinction. For example, the concrete teaching activity, the United States to encourage students to have their own ideas, teachers in the teaching process, pay attention to the students’ independent personalized thinking habits, pay attention to the students’ divergent thinking and critical thinking of the culture, politics, religion, history and many other aspects of the many problems teachers are prohibited to provide the only correct the answer, encourage a variety of different views exist, against the teacher instead of students thinking. China education focusing on the same thinking, when the examination, assessment focus is often the student’s knowledge, objective test almost flooded in the sciences, inspects the student to answer whether the test standard and consistent answers, the side guide students and teachers to set the only answer to be consistent, so the result is the most students rely on Teachers’ thinking and teaching. This and the United States banned from providing the only answer is quite different. The United States of America education emphasizes individual, Chinese education emphasizes respect love others. The ancients cloud, respect for nature love herself, not nurture. So we think, Chinese basic education relative to the United States of America ‘s individualistic education, superior and more. Chinese basic education should be guaranteed in the standard of society under the premise of the pursuit of individual students and innovation ability the development of maximization. Finally, China ‘s basic education attaches importance to the sound of the United States, and a plurality of Chinese education; education pay attention to the longitudinal depth, while the United States Education attention span; the United States of America education pay attention to cultivate students’ self-confidence and self-reliance spirit, Chinese education pay attention to cultivate students’ strict and rigorous academic attitude. The United States of America corresponding, a loose, free atmosphere, can fully take care of every student interest and the hobby; while the Chinese basic education is dull. Basic education in China is characterized by fast speed, high degree of difficulty, knowledge of many points, the high degree of abstraction, often the United States a week about the content of China, ten minutes can be finished, and students have the pressure of the college entrance examination, relative to foreign countries, students by pressure, quoting professor Chen Ning Yang ‘s words Chinese education narrow stiff. From the above we can see, China, in the education idea, education mode and method, there is a great difference. China ‘s education is more a model of education; and the United States of America focuses on emphasizing the innovation spirit, individualism, is a kind of elite education. In essence, focusing on innovation or focus on the foundation is an American basic education and basic education in China the fundamental difference. As the Nobel winner professor Chen Ning Yang said, China and the United States of America Education Foundation, cannot tell which one is good, which one is not good, be it differs from man to man. In the teaching process, for Chinese students, they should have more innovation, for American students, should let them lay a good foundation, it can compensate for each other, is the most appropriate. Three thinking American education is to the East, began to seize a base. In 2001 June, the United States President Bush proposed an education reform bill, $24000000000 in primary and secondary schools to strengthen the education investment and management, requires that all schools must hold the reading test ( approximate Chinese examination ) and math exam, students must pass the examination before graduation, only students meet the eligibility requirements, the school to receive federal extra government funding. If 3 consecutive unqualified, principals and teachers to leave. The bill got through to absolute advantage. Comparison of reference only, can only draw lessons from, in order to improve. The United States has acted, we should also take action. As can be seen, the United States of America ‘s elementary education reform focuses on the basis of innovation in bridge foundation. China ‘s basic education traditionally focus too much on the cultivation of students’ Collectivism, patriotism and common thinking, without adequate attention to the cultivation of students’ personality and creativity, so the education of our country should be based on the basis of the increase in innovation. ( a ) curriculum and course requirements We should give full consideration to the child and adolescent students’ physical, mental and psychological development stage, progressive. Different students should have different learning tasks, can not be one-sided pursuit of knowledge and too many courses, to know that knowledge is endless, the source of knowledge is very rich, can’t put the eye only to lock in the textbook, should give students leave enough space for development, to those who have expertise students with adequate development of individualized freedom, as they provide sufficient superior conditions and the necessary learning guidance, so that more of Qian Zhongshu’s birth. The United States is not the national curriculum standards, but states, counties or districts can compile curriculum standard. From look on the whole, the United States of America curriculum is quite flexible, mainly including compulsory courses and elective classes two categories. Required courses for credit is more, content is wide but not deep, emphasize the students’ practical ability, thinking ability and awareness of the problem, to solve the question ability. Elective course of many types, are based mainly on students, employment and social life of the actual need, students according to their own interest in free to choose, to obtain the required credits. So we think, our country in the setting of curriculum time completely should learn from the American experience, emphasize the foundation of life, pay attention to life experience, guide multivariate development, more from the needs of society and students survival needs to consider, setting conforms to our country national curriculum standard. ( two) teaching material Chinese teaching material relative to the United States, is boring. Take the United States of† Literature†, the contents of the article are novels, short stories, essays and other kinds of themes, but, each subject by a number of different age, different types of styles of different articles. The article, with background reports, authors and other related content. In addition, each lesson has special column has associated the literature Web site, thereby facilitating students’ extracurricular reading. Many foreign genre, content is wide, it is domestic Chinese textbook can match. Therefore, we can draw lessons from the United States of America teaching material on knowledge widen, the contempt of the depth of knowledge of excessive mining; attach importance to the students’ practice ability, practical ability training, the contempt of the knowledge of the rote learning; pay attention to students’ learning autonomy, independence and creativity cultivation, despise the same thinking too much training, so as to our teaching materials, arrangement of reform. At the same time, the United States of America textbook illustrations, vivid image, in our textbook layout can also absorb it to this experience. ( three) the classroom teaching Our classroom teaching, classroom capacity, demand is high, the classroom atmosphere more serious. Although this gives students lay a solid system foundation, but also brought inactive classroom, teacher, student thinking less defects, typical teacher-centered teaching mode, and the United States of America free, relaxed classroom atmosphere, students can walk freely during the class, free discussion, to express own viewpoint, is a typical student centered teaching mode. Therefore, we can draw lessons from the United States of America ‘s absorption of education mode, form Chinese characteristic education pattern, which is put forward by Professor He Kekang dominated — subject education mode, to improve the traditional classroom teaching, improve the students’ enthusiasm and initiative, to cultivate the students’ creative thinking and divergent thinking. The specific measures are as follows: First of all, optimize the teaching goals. According to the needs of social development, developed to meet the needs of social development, meet the future employment needs of specific teaching objectives, and formulate the corresponding evaluation scheme, to ensure the teaching objectives of the implementation. Secondly, adjust the structure of classroom. Outstanding students as the main body, autonomous learning, free development idea, overcome students ‘† hello† eat teaching phenomenon. Then, strengthen teaching methods. To follow through induction, guide correctly, improve students’ questions, the practical ability to solve problems, teachers should change their roles from the traditional preaching, impart knowledge and solve doubts are transformed into organizer, promoter, by management as a guide, the relationship between teachers and students should be converted to partners. At the same time, the teacher in the teaching process, pay attention to the use of suitable for the courses of various teaching mode of application, such as inquiry-based learning, Blended Learning. Finally, to create a good teaching environment. To establish harmonious relationship between teachers and students, to the students to create a good, harmonious, free study atmosphere. To encourage the learning and the use of modern information technology, the research and production of computer auxiliary teaching courseware, improving the quality of teaching, at the same time, make full use of the school to provide the digital learning environment, in the teaching process can realize the information technology and curriculum integration. ( four) other aspects In strengthening the above aspects at the same time, but also to improve the treatment of teachers, strengthening the teachers team construction; increase the investment in education, improve school conditions; at the same time regular teacher training, improve the quality of teaching. Four summary Through the above on the United States and China basic education after comparing, we can see, actually the most ideal education is the two kind of education modes advantages of integration, this will have solid foundation and innovation. But as a result of these two kinds of educational models are based on different cultural traditions and social background, so together with considerable difficulty. China’s basic education and higher education, there exist some problems and shortcomings, the United States of America education it has many advantages and advanced education in China, worth learning. But this does not mean that the Chinese education reform must complete to American education as an example, the overall absorption, to know the Sino-US education system is rooted in the cultural tradition, historical background and value orientation, whoever can not fully absorb each other’s essence. To sum up, we can see, different education reflects the different social and cultural connotation of the United States now, suitable teaching methods may not be entirely suitable for the Chinese education. Therefore, China ‘s education must be based on suitable for China’s national conditions based on the, it reflects the Chinese social and cultural connotation. So, how to explore with Chinese characteristics, in line with China’s national education method and the education system, is our future education

Thirteen years ago, The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf brought the art of coffee drinking and the world of gourmet grinds to the land of kopitiams and has since successfully integrated it into the fabric of the urban Malaysianâ₠¬â„¢s lifestyle. Thirteen years later, there are over 54 stores in the east and west Malaysia. We can see that between this time period, Coffee Bean had rapidly growth.Besides, Malaysian today is also familiar with Coffee Bean compare to a few years ago. In the future, it is expected that Coffee Bean will continue to growth in Malaysia due to the changing lifestyle of Malaysian and other factors. INTRODUCTION In year 1963, Herbert B. Hyman started The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf  ®. With a dedication to excellence and the quality of coffees and teas in the world, Herbert’s efforts made him the founding father of gourmet coffee in California. Now The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf  ® has grown into one of the largest privately-owned, family-run coffee and tea companies in the world.Besides, the endurance and popularity of The Bean attributed to the high standards that were established from the beginning. The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf  ® has discovered the formula for a succe ssful coffee and tea company, which is start from trend-setting drinks such as the World Famous Ice Blended ®, to the employees who become a part of the communities they work in. Today, they offer over 22 varieties of coffees and 20 kinds of teas. Moreover, Coffee Bean is also a Clicks and Mortar retailer. They sell their product at both online and via physical stores. The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf  ® mission is to create a spirit within the company that inspires their team members to provide their customers with a total quality experience that is: Quality of Product, Service and Environment Furthermore, they also believe in the fundamental truths that guide them through their daily lives at The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf  ®, which is: 1. Friendly with each other and their customers. 2. Respect for each other’s values, opinion and individual diversity. 3. Ownership, it is because they are proudly entrusted with the responsibility. . Teamwork, it is because they achieve success by working together. 5. Honesty, it is because they are truthful to each other and to themselves. In short, they realize that their customers deserve ‘simply the best’. THREATS AND OPPORTUNITITIES Opportunities 1) Changing lifestyle Although there is an economic downturn in year 2009, however, the specialty of coffee industry has grown every year. According to one of the economy observer, when times are good the coffeehouse industry is great, and when times are bad the coffeehouse industry is still great. This means that the coffee industry is strong at all times. What makes the coffee industry become a strong industry at all time? One of the main factors is changing in the Malaysian’s lifestyle. Nowadays, many of them are hard-working, fast-paced Malaysian considers a stop at their local coffeehouse as their necessary part of the day. This is because coffeehouses provide calm, inviting environment for people to socialize, relax or catch up on work. Coffee house for such The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf is one of the places where they can meet with their friends.Besides, with the relaxing atmosphere and environment it makes the coffeehouse become a suitable place for the college student to do their assignment or discussing their homework. During weekend nights, coffeehouse is the place where full with the young customers. Furthermore, instead of going to a bar and paying for an alcoholic drink or a restaurant where a meal usually comes with a hefty price tag, the older adults now choose to spent their time in the coffeehouse. With a cup of coffee and snack, they can meet with their friends and relax. 2) Market potentialAs what we had discussed just now, Malaysian’s lifestyle is changing and therefore, coffee industry for such The Coffee Bean has the potential to growth in Malaysia. According to the research, there are only 54 outlets of The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf in the whole Malaysia included East Malaysia. In the future, it is expected that the number of outlet will continue to increase. In short it means there is a market potential for The Coffee Bean. Threats 1) Competition Global coffee market is one of the very competitive sectors. The main competitor of The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf in Malaysia is Starbuck. This is because both Starbuck and The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf are addressing the same target group. Both The Coffee bean and Starbucks have developed a strong and successful business by adhering to their core values that is to offer customers the best coffees and teas, to hire friendly staff from local community and to provide comfortable places to them to relax. Therefore, The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf has to develop the best strategies to compete with Starbuck. In here, the most important thing to compete with Starbucks is to improve its services. For example, The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf had offering â€Å"Party Pack† which customer can order when throwing a house or office part y. They provide services of giving their customer the possibility to bring The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf lifestyle back to their homes. Moreover, the company also provides online services. They have their home page with virtual stores which is being defined as collection of all pages of information. The customers can buy their product through online and knowing the latest promotion through the homepage.Besides, coffee manufacturer, such as, Nestle USA, Inc, distribute premium coffee products nationally in supermarkets and convenience stores. Most of these products may be substitutes for this company’s coffees and their coffee drinks. Therefore, if the company wants to retain its status as the world’s leading specialty coffee retailer, it must be aware of their competitors. 2) Host country risk management Risk management issues such as government policies, regulation, macroeconomic variations and monetary uncertainties are important to The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf on its international franchising. Therefore, it is a necessary for The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf to understand the host county government policies concerning to the transfer and repatriation of dividends, fees and royalties. However, this company conducts a very little host government policy evaluation due to attributed to a lack of resources and reactive approach to market expansion. 3) Enthusiasm of health consciousness Nowadays, people attitude are changing and they care more to health. More and more people are taking responsibility for their health rather than passively accepting medical decisions. With this, the consumers are cutting down on caffeine. It is because they believe that drinking coffee will harm their health. This is because that they feel that the pros of consuming coffee are less than the cons. As a result, this may decline the demand for coffee from The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf. COMPANY’S RETAIL MIX Retail mix is the combination of merchandise, assortment, price, promotion, customer service and store layout that best serves the segments targeted by the retailer. Price The price is what the customer willing to pay in exchange for the benefits of the product and services. From the research that we had conducted on several Coffee Bean franchises, it is clearly shown that the price of most of the products offered is around RM10 and above. For example, an egg club sandwich and a plate of Chinese chicken salad cost Rm15. 50 each. It may be expensive for certain group of people such as the youths who are the zero income earners. With this we can see that the price charged by The Coffee Bean is slightly higher than those coffee shops such as Old Town Coffee but if we use Coffee Bean pricing and compare it to their biggest competitor in the coffee industry, for such, Starbuck.Starbucks will have a little advantage on the pricing as with high price, they will earn higher profits in just a short period. Based on the research, we can see that Cof fee Bean focused on non price decisions, but on other factors such as qualities and facilities. Thus in here it is clear that Coffee Bean is using the above – market pricing policy as they do provide the wifi facilities and also the good environment for people to do their business or assignments. It also had show that they target the market most on the youths. The muffins and cookies which cost only less than Rm5 are affordable for the youths but the cakes nd also the pasta set are not affordable for them as they are not working and thus no income for them. They only depend on the pocket money given by their parents. Thus The Coffee Bean should offer their products with lower prices so that it is affordable for the youths to purchase it. Coffee Bean can earn back their profits in the long term. The adults with middle and high income can afford to spend on the products offer by Coffee Bean. For example, although the price for those cups and gifts available in The Coffee Bean a re quite expensive, but there were actually people who purchase them especially those with high income.Merchandise Merchandise is being defined as goods, ware, stocks, articles or item to be sold. In another way of defining merchandise is the availability of assortment of products available in the retail shop. For The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf or also known as The Coffee Bean in short, offer many types of products such as coffees, teas, cakes, party-packs, pies, cookies, muffins, sandwiches, salads and even hot pasta. They even offer different types of drink menus for their customers. The Coffee Bean does customise to meet the wants and demands of their customers. This is because different consumers have different types of preferences. It can be shown clearly when The Coffee Bean customises their coffees into light and subtle, rich and smooth, dark and distinctive and flavoured. For example the light and subtle coffee is especially for the customers who prefer mild and delicate flav our. Whereas for teas, it is being categorise into black and oolong tea, green tea and flavoured green and herbal and fruit infusion. For such, green, black and oolong teas all have their own signature flavours and aromas, and each will have its own unique set of blends that complements and expands their essence.A mellow Ceylon tea, for example, blended with a delicate peach flavour works the magic sparks of fruitiness with a light floral finish. And to those who dream of having spectrum of aromas and flavours, a cup of oolong tea will be their choice. Furthermore, the cakes being offered can be customised into cheesecake special, signature classic, for kids and special occasions. They also offer the drink menus to suit the taste and preferences of their valuable customers. For such, they offer coffee, espresso, brewed tea, tea latte, non-coffee, coffee ice blended drinks, coffee-free ice blended drinks and many more. Thus with the way of customising their products to suit the tastes and preferences of different customers, it will then help to attract more customers to The Coffee Bean and with customers, retail trade can be done. They also do provide merchandise line depth whereby they allow their customers to choose the size for their drinks whether they want small, regular or large size. In conclusion, customer satisfaction can be met when the retail organisation, The Coffee Bean is being influenced by the customers’ needs and wants.Besides from all these, The Coffee Bean also do offer some gift packs, for example The Holiday Tea Trio which includes three mini square tins each containing five tea bags of whole leaf teas. They are nicely wrapped with ribbon on top of it which makes it attractive for people to purchase them. Although Coffee Bean offer a variety of products for their customer but it may bring some disadvantage such as the taste and aroma of coffees and teas may not be that fragrant anymore as they do not focus on only a particular type of coffee and tea. This may make the good quality of the products offer by them to be turned into bad quality. Therefore, to prevent this from happening, Coffee Bean should only picked up some of their famous products to specialise in and to continually improve on it. Advertising and promotions The Coffee Bean become famous and as a media darling, their brand have been place and promote in hits shows like Entourage and The Hills, to coverage leading publications like Forbes Magazine and the Times. Coffee Bean had advertised its brand not only through the media or magazine but some other ways such as donations, promotions and others. The Coffee Bean have come out with a numbers of examples they been using to reflect the concept of social responsibility and also to promote their brand through donations. It can be shown by the following example; The Coffee Bean made a donation, 50% from their sales item to be donated to serves children with autism, learning disabilities, hyperactivity or a ttention deficit disorder, mental retardation, and emotional challenges. Through an ongoing commitment, The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf ® holds The Help Group's annual Deck the Walls holiday fundraising program and proudly features the children's artwork.Their most recent activity is the project of Caring Cup initiatives which planted and nurtured domestically in communities served by the company, as well as internationally in communities which the product originate. The framework of caring cup initiatives is rooted in need; where need from preventing the environment to improving education. Through these, The Coffee Bean will definitely well known in public and as we can see nowadays more and more people will come to purchase from the shops whereby there do a lot of charity work and these charity programs will be part of The Coffee Bean social responsibilities.Beside donation there are a few promotions being used to promote their brand. At times, The Coffee Bean ;amp; Teas also giv e free drinks today to celebrate the launch of the cafe’s holiday drink line. For example, from 4p. m. to 8 p. m. (11/12) customers can get a free 12 oz holiday drink. Choices include: Peppermint Latte or Ice Blended drink; Pumpkin latte or Ice Blended drink. Besides that, they also promote their famous drinks by posting pictures on the wall and putting up banners outside of their franchises.People who own The Coffee Bean Card may have some benefits too and it acts as a way of promoting and thus can attract their customers to purchase more. By having the card the consumers may enjoy the convenience of debit purchase, the more the people top up the card the more benefit they will get, such as 10% more value and redeemable of other item by having at least 5 point. They do have the holiday promotion. When it is near by the holiday season, they had been preparing some merchandise to go, such holiday cocoas gift set and others. This had helping in promote the brand by his consumer to others. They also have their online advertisement. They are not only having their own web site but they already create their pages in Facebook, Twitter and also Youtube which are the famous connection web on current time. They also post some short video on the web to promote and attract to the customer. With all the relevant aspect, connection and advertisement use by the company, Coffee Bean has successfully passed their information to their customer.Through the promotions of the products by hanging up banners and pictures on the wall sometimes may not contain full information such as the pricing and the nutrition of the particular product. They may only contain attractive pictures on it. In order to solve it, the management of Coffee Bean should publish their nutrition label and the pricing on the banners. With these, customers can get the information of the products they choose and can decide whether to purchase it or not. Besides that, we also noticed that Coffee Bean do not give out brochures as a mean of promotion. This may be a disadvantage for them.If brochures are provided to the passer-by, they may tend to go in to the Coffee Bean to enjoy the products offered by them. As a conclusion, the Coffee Bean should also provides brochures and distribute it to the people so that they can have more information on the offers and promotions offered. Customer service and Selling Customer service is the provision of service to customers before, during and after a purchase. For The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, they provide a series of customer service to their customers. Such as, their entire customer can apply for a member card or so called The Coffee Bean Card.Basically, The Coffee Bean Card is a loyalty card introduced to reward regular customers with loyalty points called â€Å"BEANS† which can be subsequently redeemed against purchases at The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf outlets (CBTL). With perception, Coffee Bean is a big believer in teamwork (just lik e Starbucks) as they feel that success is achieved by working together. After our research on several franchises of The Coffee Bean, we noticed that their staffs are efficient, friendly and helpful enough. They maintain amicable relationships between customers and each other. This can be shown when customers ordered their drinks and food at the counter, they served their customers with smiles and when we asked them certain questions for our assignment purpose, they will try their best to answer us. The employees have respect for each other's values, opinions and individual personalities and are honest and truthful to themselves and each other. Due to this strategy, they can serve their customers in a better way. In addition, Coffee Bean also provided online service which customer can view their website that having the latest news and more information towards their company. In order to let their customer to contact them or get more information towards them, Coffee Bean also provide the ir headquarter address, email, telephone and even fax number on their website. They even have their website for their customers to comment on their services and products provided. Selling is being defined as trying to make sales by persuading someone to buy one's product or service. Coffee Bean also did selling. They try to sell out their product as much as their competitors do. Therefore, promotion will exist. Besides that, Coffee Bean tends to sell their product through their good and friendly customer service.Due to the customer service provided by them are good, customers tend to come back to them when they think of having a cup of coffee and enjoying the peaceful environment there. Although most of the Coffee Bean franchises are well organised with their efficient workers, there is a possibility that they do made mistakes to especially in delivering the drinks to the customers or when they prepare the drinks. This can be shown when our group when to one of The Coffee Bean to do our research while having our drinks there; we noticed that they made the drinks for us not according to the size we ordered. For such, we ordered a regular size black forest ice blended and a large size of the caramel ice blended, but during the preparations of the drinks, the staffs made mistakes, everything goes the other way round. These mistakes can be avoided by sending those staffs to more training programs so that they can improve and be more efficient and the operations in The Coffee Bean will be more effective and productive. Location Location is an area that retailing may undergo significant changes in the decade to come.Besides that, retailers have been classified according to their location within a metropolitan area, be it the central business district, a regional shopping centre or neighbourhood shopping centre, or freestanding unit. In order to have the businesses caring out well or to improve the businesses, location and target market can be considered as important factors. For example, if the location that retailers choose is too far away from the town or is it hardly or impossible to find a parking lot to park their vehicles, most of the consumers will choose not to go there.Locations that retailers mostly choose to run their businesses and to earn a profit from there are such as metropolitan area (e. g. : town area), central business district (e. g. : heart of the state) and so on. In Malaysia, most of the retailers would like to operate their businesses at metropolitan and central business district. The reason they choose these places is because the locations tend to attract more consumers to their shops as there were also many hypermarkets and supercenters around. As for this assignment, we carried out a research on The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf, The locations that Coffee Bean may choose to run their franchise businesses are basically the two popular locations. Besides that, The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf currently has over 750 stores in 22 countries. In addition, in Malaysia currently have over 54 stores. 31 franchises in Klang Valley, 6 in Penang, 1 at Ipoh, 2 in Pahang, 3 in Johor Bharu, 2 in Malacca, 6 in Sabah and 3 in Sarawak. Every Coffee Bean in Malaysia tends to gives people a relaxing and enjoyable environment. The location that Coffee Bean’s retailer pick mostly at those places which can attract more people. The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf tends to attract those tourists and people who used to hang out with friends or to those who were carrying out their direct selling with others. For such, after a tired shopping day, most of those shoppers will tend to find a relaxing place for a rest. They can enjoy the coffee and the sweet aroma of teas that are provided by the Coffee Bean. Next is the customers may also enjoy the beautiful scenery around these franchises, for such the beaches.Through these, more of the tourists will pay a visit and spend their time there. Besides that, location such as shopping complexes is also a hot spot for shoppers and tourists to spend their time there either the day or night. Customers can sit and relax themselves; they can also view the shoppers shopping around and can feel the friendliness of the people. Locations that Coffee Bean chooses are also convenient to the entire consumer. Most of the franchises operate at the shopping complex; this is because there are a lot parking places provided for their customers. This will let those consumers to pay more visits to their shops which can provide them with the drinks provided and the good customer service provided. Target Market is the specific group of customers that a company aims to capture. They have been identified as people with needs or wants that can be met with the products or services from the company. The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf is targeting the youth, who are teens and working adults in their twenties. This has become a weakness for the firm. The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf aligns itself wit h other major brands targeting the youth market. This may lead it to lose some potential market. For example, DOME’s positioning is â€Å"expensive and exclusive† as its target market is basically the professionals, managers, executives and businessmen. But The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf’s target market is the youth and who didn’t have strong consumption power. The target market for The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf is sensitive to the price issue. The Coffee Bean positioned them well in the target market by a competitive pricing strategy. This pricing strategy likes a threat for The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf. Thus the market share and profit for The Coffee Bean ;amp; Tea Leaf are limited. They also target the adults with stable income. The problem on the location is that there were only 54 outlets in Malaysia. For example, Pahang there is only 1 branch but we found out that it may not be enough for the Pahang residents. The people who want to go to The Coffe e Bean may need to travel a long distance to reach Coffee Bean. As a recommendation, we recommend that the management of The Coffee Bean should increase the number of outlet in Pahang.Next we also found out that The Coffee Bean target the youth as their main target. Our group feel that the youths who are the zero income earners might not have enough income to spend on the products offer which will be slightly expensive for them. Thus Coffee Bean has made a mistake, they should target adults with medium and high incomes as their main target group as they can purchase the products without worrying that they would not have enough cash to pay. Store layout and design Layout and design is defined as an arrangement, plan, design of a building, book, picture and etc.As we know, Coffee Bean is one of the franchise companies. Most of their layouts and designs are almost the same in every outlet. For example, the theme colour of the outlet. You can see that their outlet mostly is painted in b rown colour. Brown colour is a natural, down-to earth neutral colour. It represents warmth, wholesomeness, friendliness and simplicity. With this, it gave their customers a warmth feeling when they are inside their outlet. As the customers enter into the Coffee Bean, they can also notice the pictures of the famous drinks at Coffee Bean are being hang up on the wall.Besides that, the playing of the sentimental music makes the environment calm and relaxing. This makes their customers willing to pay for a higher price for a cup of coffee and enjoy it in such calm and relaxing atmosphere. Furthermore, there are also a counter is used to display their products such as packets of teas and coffees, cakes, cookies, muffins and etc in every outlet. It is well organised, people can easily find the products they want as the products are being arranged in order. Each of the products display is being priced.Customers can choose whatever products they want from there and they can see the price fo r it.
